Barry Kenneth Hamilton is a principal of Hamilton Calvert Advisory (‘the practice’); Tasmania’s only independently branded small business reconstructing and insolvency specialist firm.

 

Barry obtained a Bachelor of Business Studies from the University of Tasmania in 1991. Barry is a registered liquidator, official liquidator and registered trustee in bankruptcy. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (“CAANZ”), holds a certificate of public practice issued by CAANZ, a member of the Australian Restructuring & Insolvency Turnaround Association (“ARITA”), a member of The Independent Insolvency Practitioners Association (“IIPA”).

 

Barry commenced practice in September 1997 and operates in the debtor driven SME insolvency market accepting appointments for creditor’s voluntary liquidations, administrations, receiverships, court liquidations, bankruptcy, turnaround, small business restructuring and forensic accounting. Barry has commenced numerous proceedings as appointee in the Federal Court and Supreme Court with a strong focus on improving creditor outcomes by mediated settlements.

 

Barry has a strong focus for developing the careers of women in male dominated industries and has encouraged his female staff to attain high outcomes and qualifications.

 

The firm operates Statewide and is regularly appointed to insolvent administrations in other States of Australia. Barry has accepted external appointments in over 400 Companies and Bankruptcies.

 

Barry has in excess of 30 years experience in insolvency and investigative accounting having previously worked for Price Waterhouse, Deloitte and the Official Receiver’s Office in Tasmania.

 

Prior to specialising in accounting, Barry worked in the Magistrates Court for in excess of ten years as a Magistrate’s clerk and senior officer in the civil division, assisting in the implementation of Tasmania’s small claims court.
